Playable Events: 2, 13, 27, 29, 39, 48, 49. (NL-Holdem on Thur, Fri, or Sat)

2008 39th Annual World Series of Poker

When: May – July 2008
Where: Rio Casino, Las Vegas
What: The biggest poker tournament series in the world

Since I’ve been playing No-Limit Texas Hold’em most of the time since I started poker 7 month ago, my best shot is no doubt No-Limit Texas Hold’em.

I originally planned to play the 10,000 dollars buy-in main event (Event 54). The main reason is that that is the biggest event, with wide ESPN appearance, well-known event. You can tell mom "I am on ESPN" even when you lose. 🙂 Naive, Right? but yes, that was what I thought.

Things changed. I bought a house and is short of money for the 10K buy-in. (I can still afford it, but that will take a too big bite of my pocket, and thus will affect my play in the game) Now the plan is to play a cheaper buy-in, shorter event. If I make it, I can still go ahead to play the 2 week long main event.

All of the No-Limit Hold’em (non shootout, full table) events are: Event 2, 5, 7, 13, 21, 27, 29, 32, 36, 39, 44, 48, 49, and 52.

Here’s a complete list of the buy-in and days of play:

(r) means re-buy/add-on allowed.

All No-Limit hold’em events start at 12PM. Money wise, I prefer a 2000-3000 game, not too big and not too small. Just enough to take a shot. Time wise, I prefer an event starting on Thursday, Friday or Saturday. This way I can take fully use of the weekend and reduce the vacation hours off work. This would limit my choices to Event 48 and Event 13.

Let’s take a further look of these two events:

1. No-Limit Hold’em (Event 48) No Rebuy/Add-ons  Fri, Jun 27th. 3-Day Event. 2000 Dollars buy-in

Players begin with $4,000 in Tournament Chips. All levels will last 60 minutes. Breaks will be every two levels and last 20 minutes. Dinner break will be at the end of level 6 and last 90 minutes. Play will continue on Day 1 until the completion of level 10. Play will resume at 2 PM on June 28, 2008, and play down to the final table. Day 3: Final Table at 2 PM. 6.3% of the total entry pool will be withheld for entry fees, and 2.7% of the total entry pool will be withheld for tournament staff.

2007 Reigning Champion
BLAIR RODMAN $707,898
Number of 2007 entries: 2,038

2. No-Limit Hold’em (Event 13) No Rebuy/Add-ons  Sat, Jun 7th. 3-Day Event. 2500 Dollars buy-in

Players begin with $5,000 in Tournament Chips. All levels will last 60 minutes. Breaks will be every two levels and last 20 minutes. Dinner break will be at the end of level 6 and last 90 minutes. Play will continue on Day 1 until the completion of level 10. Play will resume at 2 PM on June 8, 2008, and play down to the final table. Day 3: Final Table 2 PM. 5.6% of the total entry pool will be withheld for entry fees, and 2.4% of the total entry pool will be withheld for tournament staff.

2007 Reigning Champion
FRANCOIS SAFIEDDINE $521,785
Number of 2007 entries: 1,013

In case of neither event available, I would choose a $1500 buy-in game.

somerville lake, camping, independence, bluebonnet, old baylor, I-35 > US77 > TX 36, BBQ, A-Xiangpo, Dong, Windy, Bin, Gibleo, Yifei, Carol, Luozhong, DrYang, Killer Game, Yes-No-Question-reasoning-horror-story game, 真心话大冒险未遂game, unwelcomed neibours invade, Chongqing forrest, unlicensed driver 70 mph, Winstar, missed blackjack tournament, wii, bonfire, haired trees, all-around restrooms.

  • Howard Liu:
